FSH Muscular Dystrophy and the WRONG Chair

I currently live in Brighton & I have FSH Muscular Dystrophy. Wheelchair Services were first contacted by my Physio in London and they then contacted my GP, approximately 2 weeks later I received a phone call from Wheelchair Services saying that somebody would be coming to see me & we made an appointment which I assumed would be for an assessment.

The day of the appointment arrived but it was just the supplier bringing me a self propelled chair, no assessment was carried out.

I’ve had this chair about 4 months now but I’m finding it a struggle to self propel due to my weak arms and winging scapular. I contacted Wheelchair Services to ask about E-Motion Wheels and maybe a lightweight wheelchair but was told they couldn’t help me, I’ve also contacted Access To Work but they won’t help me unless I have written confirmation from Wheelchair Services that they can’t help! I’ve been phoning Wheelchair Services every day for a week & have emailed but so far nobody has contacted me back.

I was transferred to Brighton General for my physio and I went there on Monday, my physio there is great & I told her the issues I was having, she spoke to Wheelchair Services on my behalf and was informed they are short staffed but somebody will contact me, I still haven’t had a phone call or email.

It’s just very frustrating as they were very efficient in getting a wheelchair to me originally but now I’m requiring something a bit more specialised nobody seems to want to know, at the very least I believe I should have had an assessment before the first chair was given to me or an assessment should be done now but until somebody contacts me I’m stuck!

I want to keep contacting them but don’t want to be the pain customer who constantly calls & emails, particularly if they are short staffed.
